As a DJ, one of the basic fundamentals of performing is knowing how to mix music. Keeping
that smooth flow, rhythm and energy on the dance floor is essential to a Dj and their
performance in front of their crowd! In this article we will mention 5 secrets of Dj mixing
tips that any beginner needs to know in order to become successful.

Beat mixing has become easier than it used to be because most of todays dance music tracks
have lengthy introductions to a song and also long outro ductions to a song. With this in
mind, it has also become easier for for newcomers to come into the scene and get involved
because Dj equipment is as expensive as it used to be!

Here are some of the Dj mixing tips you need to know -

1. Almost all dance tracks have an intro where you can mix in the music and a break or outro
where you can mix out of a track. Commonly, the outro area on a dance track is often the
final opportunity to mix out of the song. You can also mix out of a dance track where there
is a breakdown in the record!

2. When listening to dance music and its structure, make sure that you listen to the drum
beat of the song. This is normally a 4/4 structure. Eg. 1,2,3,4 - 2,2,3,4 - 3,2,3,4 - 4,2,3,4
Counting the beats will help you understand where you need to place your mix with the other
record you wish to mix into.

3. So now, as you listen to the tune that is being played (song one) on the output (dance
floor) you need to cue the song that you want to beat match through your headphones on the
other turntable or cd. When tune 1 comes towards its outro section, you then need to start
the second tune on its first beat in which case this is the intro of the second tune. This is
where you start to beat match the to songs. As you match the drum beats of the two songs keep
your hand on the pitch of the tune that you are trying to introduce. Adjusting the pitch will
help you speed up or slow down the tune you are trying to introduce!

4. As one hand adjusts the speed of the incoming song, the other hand needs to be to be
adjusting the volume of the mixer and gradually sliding the cross fader from tune one to the
other. What happens when you do this is that song one decreases in volume and song two
increases in volume Thus completing the change over from one track to the other.

5. One of the most important things for a DJ to understand when in the mix, is to make sure
that he/she always keeps their hand on the pitch when adjusting a mix. Some Dj's don't realize
this, but touching the vinyl may create a swoosh sound that can disturb the mix and make it
sound like its not running smooth! So avoid touching the vinyl or platter when you are
adjusting the speed on a live mix!

These are the DJ mixing tips exposed. I hope they are some sort of use to you! Learn and
understand them as best you can and they will help you become better at mixing your music!

Mississippi is well known as the "Birthplace of the Blues". Recently Mississippi has established "Blues Trails" as regional markers to landmark birth places and plantation homes of blues legends, in addition to grave sites and other areas of interest to blues aficionados.

An excursion through the Mississippi Delta takes visitors aback to where the blues began.

Clarksdale, Ms acts as the blues hub and is generally a good place to start your Mississippi Delta Blues Tour.

Being the birthplace of Muddy Waters, Clarksdale, MS is definately the most cultural rich blues community in Mississippi.

If you are looking for real blues, you're not going to find it on Beale St. in Memphis. You will have to get off the beaten path to find the real deal. Places like Po'Monkey's in Merigold, Ms. Merigold is about 30 miles south of Clarksdale.

Ok, so are you ready to take your "Blues Pilgrimage" ? But where will you stay? I know! How about the "ShackUp Inn" (www.shackupinn.com) right outside Clarksdale, Ms. Take a trip back in time to the plantation days. The ShackUp Inn has refurbished "Shot Gun" houses taken from the "Hobson Plantation". Prices are very reasonable and houses feature a full kitchen and dining area.

Take a visit to the Blues Museum in Clarksdale. Here you can get area information and directions to all sorts of out of the way landmarks and blues clubs. Also visit CatHead (www.cathead.biz), for blues culture and local folkart.

The Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival in Clarksdale begins 08/08-10/2008. Featuring Blues Legends and Top Blues acts from across the country, good southern BBQ, art and crafts. Named one of the "Top 10" festivals in the country. For more info see (www.sunflowerfest.org)

Just right across the Mississippi River Bridge is Helena, AR. Each year, the second weekend of October, Helena host the "King Biscuit Festival".This is another must-attend event.

Mississippi is steeped in Blues Heritage. There are a number of blues legends still performing in Mississippi Delta Blues Festivals. Don't miss an opportunity to enjoy these men and women of blues nobility.

Beginner Guitar Online Lessons - Looking for The Little Blue Pill?

Wouldn't it be nice to just be able to take a pill and suddenly wake up one morning and find that you can play guitar like Eric Clapton? Films like Matrix featured this concept, but Hollywood is Hollywood and real life, as everyone knows, is quite different.

Although this magic pill does not exist when it comes to learning to play the guitar, one thing is certainly true: If the lessons you have chosen are not well structured and laid out, your learning curve will be more of a straight horizontal line, gently inclined upwards.

When I was young, I earnestly wanted to learn to play the guitar, but we were five children in my family so money was quite scarce, and I had to learn 'the hard way'. This trial & error method worked, as I now realize that I was quite musically inclined and very set on my goal, but I ended up spending a lot of time needlessly. What I learned in my first five years of consistent 6 hour daily sessions, could easily have been learned with a proper method and teacher in less than 6 months ...and spending just an hour a day on the instrument!

I can tell you first hand that there is a big difference between learning the right way and the wrong way. Experienced teachers and good methods will make you progress like you've never dreamed possible. And if your problem is money there's a very good alternative to hiring a private teacher: Online guitar lessons.

For less than $100 you can get quality lessons with videos, backing tracks, TAB plus musical notation and software bonuses to boot! Sure, you can find free lessons all over the web, but having the information is no guarantee you'll know how to use it effectively to learn quickly.

As a beginner guitarist, you need someone to tell you what goes first and what follows in a step-by-step manner. Yours is the goal you wish to achieve, but it's up to a well structured course to get you there.

Ruben Cardos has been a non stop studio and live musician as well as sound technician, electronics technician and sporadic guitar teacher for well over 25 years. Check out the ultimate Online Electric Guitar Lessons reviews at:

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD!

Blues Guitar Scales Are Awesome

Ask any guitarist (whether they play blues, rock, metal, jazz, or country) how often they use blues guitar scales. I'll bet 99% of them will tell you that they do every day they pick up their guitar.

Blues scales are so popular in guitar music because they are easy to play and sound really cool.

Think of your most favorite, and the greatest guitar solos of all time. What do they have in common?

Blues guitar scales!

Alright, time for a little bit of theory. The blues scale is built out of the root, flat third, fourth, flat five, five, and flat seven of a given key. So, in the key of E the notes E, G, A, Bb, B, and D would spell an E blues scale.

If you haven't learned your first blues scale yet on your guitar, you ought to start off with the E blues scale in open position. Open position means that your fretting hand will hang around by the nut and that there will be some open strings in the scale. In fact, about half of the strings will be open in this scale which is why it's a very easy scale to learn, especially for a beginner. It shouldn't take more than five minutes to find a tab for this.

So after you've got that one under your belt you ought to start moving that shape around to play blues guitar scales in different keys. Starting with the most common keys on the guitar, like A D C G and B, is wise. Then get used to moving it around through the circle of fifths.

It's also cool to master the scale in one key all over the entire fretboard, or up and down the single strings.

No matter why you want to learn blues guitar scales, you will be a better guitarist for it.

Soca music is a dynamic mix of Calypso and Indian music. Soca rhythm and beats are hit out on a bunch of different Indian rhythm instruments like the dholak, tabla and dhantal. It is most popular in the Caribbean, but also has fans around the world.

Garfield Blackman, more popularly known as Lord Shorty and Ras Shorty I, was the innovator of Soca music. When Shorty was a kid he always heard Calypso or Indian music being played around him. He created Soca music by combining Calypso and Indian music together-- and added lots of beats toit with a bunch of Indian rhythm instruments. Lord Shorty first called this new musical style Solca, representing the true "Soul of Calypso." Solca became popularly known as Soca. Lord Shorty wanted Soca "to uplift people's spirits".

Soca spread around the world like a hurricane after several hits by Soca performer Arrow, including Hot Hot Hot.

Soca numbers by several other performers are also very popular. Soca continues to evolve into new musical forms.

Jamoo

Jamoo is a mix of reggae and gospel, with a modest following . It was pioneered by Lord Shorty after he quit performing Soca. Jamoo spreads a message of goodness and spirituality, as Lord Shorty had originally intended Soca to do. But Lord Shorty came to feel Soca performers were spreading bad messages in sharp contrast to its original purpose: "to uplift the spirits of the people."

A Little Bit About Shorty and His Childhood

Garfield Blackman, who would become most widely known to the world as Lord Shorty then as Ras Shorty I, an extraordinary Calypso singer and composer who invented Soca Music and Jamoo Music, was born in Trinidad on October 6, 1941. During his childhood in Trinidad, Shorty was exposed to a sea of music: Caribbean Calypso music, West African Music, and East Indian music. As a young child Shorty "was inspired by his older brother George, who played the mouth organ, and he was so talented that he soon mastered the organ and the guitar," a cousin recalls. Garfield Blackman aka Lord Shorty aka Ras Short I started singing Calypso songs before he was seven.

The acoustic guitar is an instrument which produces sound via the vibration of the strings through the hollow body, sound board and sound hole. String vibration can be achieved by using a flatpick, usually made of plastic, or by simply strumming the strings with the thumb. One can pick individual notes or strike a combination of strings at once to produce a chord.

A more intricate method is fingerpicking, a technique which uses the thumb and tips of the fingers to strike individual strings. Fingertips, fingernails (which are usually grown longer for this specific purpose), fingerpicks which are attached to the thumb and fingers can all be used for fingerpick guitar playing.

The acoustic guitar is a very portable instrument. Lightweight and easily transportable it makes the perfect musical companion. The lowest tone string, the string you would strike first in a chord with a downward pick motion, is called the sixth string and each subsequent string is the fifth, fourth, third, second and first, respectively. Standard tuning is as follows:

Sixth string - low E
Fifth string - A
Fourth string - D
Third string - G
Second string - B
First string - E

The neck of an acoustic guitar is made up of the fretboard, frets, tuners and headstock. The neck also contains a truss rod which is a metal rod that runs through the inside of the neck. This rod works to keep the neck from succumbing to the tremendous tension created by the strings. The fretboard (fingerboard), with spacing created by frets, is where a guitarist depresses strings to create notes and chords.

The strings used on acoustic guitars are made of steel, nickel or bronze alloys. One end is ball shaped. This end is dropped into the appropriate hole at the bridge and generally a bridge pin is pushed into the hole to keep the ball end in place. The string is then run up the fretboard and attached to the appropriate machine tuner. The machine tuner is turned to wind the string around the tuner post until all slack is taken up and the proper tone achieved. There's a neat little plastic winder tool you can buy which makes turning the machine heads a lot quicker and easier.

The tone from a new set of strings is beautifully bright. Depending on how much you play and how much finger oil and sweat are transferred to the strings oxidation will inevitably set in and the strings will lose that brightness of tone. When that happens just put on a new set of strings.

Keep in mind that when you first start playing an acoustic steel string guitar your fingers will hurt. You must practice on a regular basis to toughen up your fingertips. There's no shortcut unfortunately. So there you have it, a little bit of information on the steel string acoustic guitar.

I've done the research and found what I consider to be the top five online guitar courses. Start today and discover the pleasure and sense of accomplishment that comes with mastering the six string. Check them out here at http://www.reviewsbytheigmonster.com

Fix Your Sad Faced iPod

If you're like many of the other millions of Ipod users out there, you take your little Ipod with you everywhere. Every time you expect it to perform flawlessly, and most of the time it does. However, after months and months of use and abuse, years even, your little Ipod isn't so keen on performing like it did when it was brand new, so one day when you wake up and greet your little Ipod with ears ready for music listening it doesn't greet you back. Instead, it frowns on you and tells you to contact Apple for support only to realize your warranty just ran out 3 days ago. Out of luck? No! Luckily there is a solution to the Ipod Sad Face.

Ipod sad Face Solution
  1. Hug it tightly and give it a good kiss, because what you're about to do is not recommended by Apple support, but a very big group of bloggers who have found the solution to this problem.

  2. Firmly grasp your Ipod.

  3. Slam it (charging port down) onto your desk, a dresser, a table, anything around you that is flat, sturdy, and quite possibly won't hurt you Ipod, you can use a mouse pad or something slightly soft to cushion it a little bit, if you feel insecure about doing this, have a friend do it, because they won't have an emotional attachment to your Ipod.

  4. Now repeat step 3 two more times, and wait for your Ipod to rise out of the grave feeling rejuvenated and happily greets you with your favorite tunes.

What seems to happen is after using it time and time again, the hard drive connection to the Ipod seems to loosen up so much that it can no longer detect the connection and/or communicate with the Ipod. By slamming it down onto the desk you secure the connection so that way your Ipod can now detect your hard drive.

Make sure you take care when slamming your Ipod onto anything, because you don't want to hurt your Ipod or the 'anything' that you're slamming it onto. I, personally have experienced this problem and followed the above steps to fix it, now my trusty 20GB Ipod Photo is working just as happily as it was the first day I got it.

Compression

Compressing your mix makes the individual tracks take up less (dynamic) space without losing their sonic impact. As you begin your mix, start conservatively with your compressor settings: the attack and release should be relatively fast, set the ratio at 2:1 or 3:1, and set the threshold so that only the peaks are getting over the top and being "squeezed." You've probably heard the phrase, "Punchy Mix." Stereo compression is a key element in making your mix more "punchy." EQ'ing the stereo buss - the two wires that funnel all the various sounds from your mixing console to your 2-track recorder - is generally discouraged. Since this eq affects the entire signal, from your bass guitar to your lead vocal and everything else in the mix, you're likely to affect some sounds you didn't intend to. For example, if you decide that the mix is lacking bottom end, try adding a little here and there (on the bass, the kick, toms or whatever needs it).

If you add bottom end to the whole mix, you're also adding to the vocal, the cymbals, percussion, etc. It's best to leave such overall eq'ing to the mastering engineer, who doesn't have the luxury of addressing individual tracks, but has trained his ears specifically for the art of overall eq. The legend of Bob Marley means something different for everyone. While his musical styling will always be remembered in the reggae genre, his music and message were varied and emotional. His songs touched on basic human needs for love, togetherness, equality and peace. But he often sang from the darker of human deeds as well. Slavery, war, and political injustice were all far targets for this musical prophet of Kingston, Jamica.

Even in passing, Bob Marley still continues to reach generations who weren't even born till after his death. His message is universal, timeless and evocative. It still speaks generations later, and will continue to do so decades from now. His albums, cds, artwork and posters continue to spread his message.

One remarkable phenomena is the fascination young people have with the images, photographs and posters of Bob Marley. Posters of his live concerts, and personal life outside the music stage continue to sell and be collected by people of all ages and walks of life. The young especially. It's not unusual to walk into any dorm room from Florida to Alaska, and find images of Bob Marley adorning the walls.

Bob Marley was a devout follower of the Rastafari. It influenced his life, his music, his actions, his beliefs and ultimately his death. While it is common knowledge that the herb he so openly enjoyed was a part of this religious devotion, many don't know that part of the Rastafari belief is that the body must remain whole. Which is why he decided not to have a foot amputated that was stricken with cancer. Ultimately that cancer spread through his body, and took him from us. It seems a harsh injustice, but you have to admire the man for being true to his beliefs.

Could it be his universal messages of love and devotion. His political stance against apartheid and other governmental injustices seem to connect with many people young and old.

Bob Marleys message was important, and it's good to see it still entrenched in the spirit of the young. They are the future, and the message in the music still reaches them. Especially in todays troubled times. Our leader seem to have forgotten the message of one love, that Bob so adamantly echoed through our consciousness years past.

Let's hope the ghost of Bob Marley continues to live on through music, artwork, photographs, t-shirts, and posters. It reminds us all of what it means to be human.

To see more about Bob Marley posters, and help spread the message, please visit, and see some truly brilliant Bob Marley posters.

In the recent years there is no big issues involved in the question : "How to start your record company". One can follow six steps systematically to be up & kicking with your own record label.

The first question in the process as to how to start a record company, needs to make a solid business plan. This will allow one to fix starting dates, possible financing options, possible artist signups & addition , venues of operation. If you don't know how to write a business plan, then it is wiser to take professional help in this regard.

Deciding the initial setup in which you will be confronted with the factor of the venue , amongst the criteria included in the "how to start your record company", one may end up deciding in favor of one's own house or a rented space. If you start initially from your house, it will restrict your operation budget, which is indeed a relief. Also the equipment necessary for this has shrunk in space & also in price, than the early days equipments.
A proper balance must be maintained to do the same.

Step three in deciding how to start a record company includes the studio setup plan, and the plans of projecting your artistes. You can now continue to chalk out your financial plans & projections. You can obtain the required finances from the banks as loans, from personal investors, as bank overdrafts, or you can use your own finances for you record company to start.

The next step is to understand that the record label business is not a get rich fast business as it is shown on the TV occasionally, which should be welcome news when your are bothered with questions as to how to start a record company. This is based on finding your particular niche market and maximizing the potential of your own record label. The record label will get its funding from music as a whole , so all your income will have to come from sold records, live shows, merchandise etc. the profits earned will depend on how you are able to market yourself in this area of the business.

Meeting the legal council is the next step on the agenda vis--vis how to start a record company. Considering that all your plans are fully mapped & outlined, all possible financing options looked at & the marketing plans for the first financial year chalked out, this provides you with all the business taxation information which will make all your transactions legal. This will also prove that the income generated will be from recording activities etc.

The last step to be followed is to obtain a business license, which can be obtained personally by visiting the business license office. The most important thing that the authorities will be asking is the area of operation regarding the business. They will ensure that your neighborhood is not disturbed if you will be running it from you house. If you wish to work from other place then the same process will be repeated.

Obtaining a tax id number is required in case you take a decision of hiring people or your are in business partnerships, to be used for filing forms for the state & central Governments whenever required .

If you want to sell your music directly to the general public, you need to obtain a retail license to do the same. You are expected by the sales tax department to collect the sales tax for your records sold, This is to be filed separately

This completes all in your itinerary of the who's who of how to start a record company".

My Bloody Valentine - Soon

I cant believe I bought these tickets seven months ago. So much has happened in that time: Ive moved house, Ive acquired a cat, the cat has gone feral, the cat has trashed the houseIm pretty sure… (in post My Bloody Valentine at the Roundhouse, 21/06/08 from mapsadaisical. When planning your wedding, you may wonder, what is the best mix of music for your reception. The truth of the matter is, the best music for your reception depends on a number of factors: the location of the reception, the formality of the wedding, the guests who will attend, and the theme of the wedding. An outdoor garden party will have much different music than a country themed wedding, and a county themed bash will be much different than an upscale five hundred guest black tie event.

In general though, you will want traditional, big band, swing and light pop music for the first half of the reception. You will want something light, classic and enjoyable during dinner. After dinner, you will want to pick the party up a notch by playing something your guests can dance to - whether it be popular pop music, top 40 music, R&B, or group dance music. In other words, your reception will have a good mix of styles and ranges, something to please everyone who is attending.

As soon as you have confirmed your wedding date, your location and booked your band or DJ, you may want to make a list of events you will need songs for during your wedding and select songs for those events. You may also want to make a list of songs to play, songs not to play, and special songs for certain people.

Here are some things you may want to jot down and present to your music entertainment for your wedding. Confirm the following songs for special moments or blocks of time during your reception.

  1. First Dance Song
  2. Bridal Party Dance
  3. Father Daughter Dance
  4. Mother Son Dance
  5. Songs for any other special dances (grandparents, ethnic dances, group dances)
  6. Song for the Cake Cutting
  7. Song for the bridal bouquet / garter toss
  8. Anniversary song for married couples
  9. A closing song for the end of the reception
  10. Confirm a list of songs you definately want played
