When it comes to recording your music, it's all down to the way you mix it. Combining different sounds will enable you to achieve lots of instrumental opportunities and understanding how to carry out this procedure will have a great bearing on the end result.

There are two areas where the mixing happens and the first of these occurs between the musicians and through the soundboard before any recording onto a track takes place. This kind of mixing not only helps to define the instrumentation for the computer software programs but also for the musicians who are working with the mixer.

At this point all of the instrumentation has to be leveled out and although finding a blend is not necessary, creating similar levels of volume and a balance between the various instruments is essential. This is also part of the preparation for the final recording session which includes noise gates and deadening the sound in order for the waves to be manipulated.

This part of mixing is defined once more after the tracks have been recorded. The process of mixing after this point depends on the strong areas of the individual instruments being found and making sure they sound good. All of the instruments should be normalized by the time you start mixing within whichever software program you are using and the peak points of the waves should be at the same number calculated through the noise levels of the waves.

The mixing process them becomes a method of developing the individual instruments through the piece. You should also be thinking of how to link in other instruments at this time, without paying any less attention to bringing out the best of the instrument you are using. There are a several components available for you to use to ensure you get the best mix and a better sound at the end of your recording.

You can augment the sound by the use of special effects. Each instrument can have its own special effects or an equal effect which allows everything to sound unique. You can even create separate effects for specific rooms. These are all different aspects of the mixing process which enhances the instruments being used.

After the effects have been added, through the wave files you can enhance the necessary areas of each instrument. Creating volume envelopes to bring out individual instruments at various times throughout the piece or let them remain in the background is another component you will want to use. This will allow you to define what needs to come out most in the song. Highs and lows within the waves of individual instruments will need to be created so that the balance is perfect within the song.

The last step of the mixing process is determining the volume levels and working out whether to keep them the same or have the option to increase them. Always remember to allow yourself a little bit of leeway in order to balance out the levels during the pre-mastering and mastering parts of mixing and recording.

When the mixing process within the software program is completed you will have all of the instruments equalized with their own volume levels, their effects and their different areas of sound. You can then blend the instruments together, first one by one and then as a group. Simply understanding the mixing procedure will allow you to create exactly the sound you desire for your piece of music.

Review of Shure M44-7 Cartridge

I first bought this stylus a few years ago when I started scratching. My poor technique meant that the needle kept jumping out of the groove. Plus all the scratching meant that I was burning through my records pretty fast. So I went down to my local DJ store and was recommended the Shure M44-& Cartridge.

After taking it home and getting it out of its package, my first impressions was that it was very oddly shaped. I had never seen a cart like this - it looked like a little plastic brick. The cart's shape somewhat effected the installation process - I had to use different screws to attach it to the tone arm. But this wasn't a big deal as these longer screws were included.

After I had them hooked up I dropped a record on the turntable and gave the Shure a try. I noticed the difference immediately noticed the difference. The needle stayed in the groove despite my heavy handed scratching. It seemed glued in there. It performs so well that DJs are bound to get worried about record wear. But that is not a concern with these carts! The tracking force is exceptionally low and that translates into less damage over time to your vinyl.

In addition to handling great, these carts also sound awesome! They seem to sound best with hip hop - the bass is boosted a little bit. Overall they are very clear and capable of getting really loud.

Shure also makes another model - the Shure M44G - that looks identical to the Shure M44-7. I had been confused by this when I first bought my Shures because the guy at the DJ store wasn't able to tell me the difference. But the difference between these is that the M44G has a more balanced output. This means that the lows are accentuated like with the M44-7s and therefore this is the needle you are going to want if you are playing electronic music like trance or house. The M44G does give up a little of the M44-&s tracking force, but it still handles great.

All in all, you can't go wrong with this product. In fact, the instructions for Serato's Scratch Live program state that it will perform optimally with either of these Shure cartridges.

For a bride, her wedding is one of the most important days in her life. And not only for her but for her groom and her family and friends as well. Planning the wedding ceremony, the reception, and honeymoon takes a great deal of time and effort with the end goal to make the bride's wedding day as memorable as possible. Planning a wedding can be exciting, but can be stressful as well. There are so many things to arrange and it always seems like too little time to get them done.

A recent study done for the wedding industry indicates that about one half of all brides will use a wedding consultant or a wedding day coordinator to plan their special event. The other half of brides are do-it-yourself when it comes to planning their weddings.

Why do brides to be do the majority of the planning themselves? Simply, because they can't afford to hire a wedding consultant or coordinator to oversee the planning of their wedding. From rising prices in everything to the fade in traditional family support, the brides to be are finding themselves with limited budgets and little time. The 10 to 15 percent of what a wedding planner or coordinator takes off the top of the event is a nice chunk of change that can mean a huge difference in much of what the couple and their families can afford to put into the event.

Statistics from the Cost of Wedding website that is owned by The Wedding Report (Wedding Statistics and Market Research for the Wedding Industry) tells us on average, couples U.S. couples spend $28,800 for their weddings. You should note that wedding cost can vary widely and this is just an estimate of what couples will likely spend based on the research at The Wedding Report. Results are based on their research and responses from other married users of the site. Understanding the average wedding cost now can help you with your wedding budget later.

On average, couples will spend for their wedding in the areas of Vallejo and Fairfield, California.

Modern day brides are independent women. And they do a lot! Mostly by design... they have a standard of living, goals they are determined to reach. They do their best and work with what they have. So what does the do-it-yourself bride do? Simple, they become overnight wedding experts. They buy wedding books and wedding trade magazines. The Internet savvy bride sifts through countless web sites looking for ideas and help. They interview vendors and order everything themselves. They coordinate with venues and vendors and request help from family and friends.

More and more the DJ is now being requested to handle the day of the event director duties. Coordinating with the venue and vendors to ensure the flow of the day of the event is seamless. Ensuring the bridal party, family and friends are where they need to be at the right times. As well as making sure the announcements' and songs are played at the right times. The line between DJ and Wedding Coordinator is getting blurrier every day. Finding a DJ service that offers the support of a second person to handle the day of the event director duties and online event planning forms is one way the do-it-herself bride can save a little dough.

Sarah Perrotta - Out of Grace

If my husband really wants to tick me off, all he has to do is ask me what I'm going to do with all that junk in my trunk. I hear those few words and I'm off and running. I can literally rant for hours. That is how much this song gets under my skin.

When I first heard it, I had to laugh. Lady lumps? Really? I figured it was a joke. But it wasn't. The Black Eyed Peas' song My Humps was a dance hit in 2005. The song was catchy and is a popular ringtone. It has also spawned a wonderful parody by Alanis Morissette. It was also the beginning of a horrible trend among female singers: objectifying themselves and other women.

This song annoys me in so many ways it's hard to know where to start. Obviously the lyrics are my number one annoyance. Demeaning and vulgar it pains me to listen to them. I don't want young girls thinking it's okay to use their lady lumps and bumps to get guys to buy them stuff. Isn't that technically a form of prostitution? At the very least it has the potential to create gold diggers everywhere.

And that sing song not really singing but sort of singing voice Fergie uses drives me nuts. And it's everywhere now. Even Madonna gives it a go on her new album. I think maybe it's supposed to be seductive but to me it sounds like a hop scotch tune.

Perhaps the most annoying thing for me about this song is that it's catchy. It was a huge hit and people of all ages listen to it. Young 'tweens listen to it. And end up thinking that the only way to succeed and get what you want is by using your body. And once you get what you want? Simply move on to the next victim, shake your humps at him and he's all yours.

Today's Blog Music - The Hype Machine

latest mp3 blog tracks from all over

It may be that in musical retrospect, from a luxury of twenty-twenty critical hindsight, that Astor Piazzolla will be seen as having done in the twentieth century for the tango what Frederick Chopin did in the nineteenth for the waltz. It is perhaps already an accepted position. With the waltz, Chopin took an established popular form and stretched its boundaries so that what an audience might have expected to be a little ditty was recast to express heroism, sensuality, pride or even occasional doubt. The little dance tune then, in Chopin's slender hands, became an elegant art form, highly expressive, utterly Romantic in its ability to convey human emotion.

The tango represents an apparently different proposition. Already sensuous by definition, there are elements of the romantic towards which the tango need not aspire. If Romanticism placed individual emotional responses upon the pedestal of artistic expression, by the time the tango aspired to truly international currency in the twentieth century, there was no longer any need to worry about an artist's right to make a personal statement.

With the rise of serialism, neo-classicism and, later, minimalism, artistic mores were already, perhaps, heading in the opposite direction, towards a new espousal of rigour and structure. Emotion worn on the cuffs, like concepts plucked from the back of a matchbox, seemed to dominate cultural activities in the latter part of the century whilst, at the same time, Althusser and Derrida, allied with the populism of mass culture, seemed to suggest that there were no new statements, let alone discoveries, to be made. A spectral free-for-all ruled, where distinctions of quality were suddenly both particularistic and individual to the point of exclusion. (This, of course, is necessarily a paradox for people promoting a populist pop culture, since they aspire to mass consumption of a single artistic vision, a statement that by definition cannot be worth more than any other - even randomly selected statement. As a result, those who tend to deny a critic's right to make value judgments must themselves assume that such judgments are perfectly valid in the marketplace. It's a contradictory position, but an essential one for purveyors of pop, since they must continue to describe the form as popular, despite the fact that the vast majority of its products prove themselves to be anything but.) Post-modernists thus hailed the soap opera alongside Shakespeare, a logic that renders a Coca Cola advertisement the greatest film ever made by virtue of its viewer numbers. And then there was Piazzolla, an enigma par excellence.

On the one hand Astor Piazzolla is the quintessential mid-twentieth century composer. Classically trained, a pupil of Alberto Ginastera and Nadia Boulanger, and inspired by the commercial and folk music of his own country, he could have slotted alongside Villa Lobos, Ponce, or even Martinu or Copeland as a contributor to the century's neo-classical-folk music paradigm. But what he did was quite different.

He devoted his compositional energies to recreating and reinventing a popular idiom that was thoroughly specific to his own country, Argentina. The form, of course, was the tango. What is more, Astor Piazzolla concentrated on performance via his own ensembles and he achieved considerable success, albeit local until near the end of his life, over a career that spanned fifty years. But he expressed himself on the bandoneon, a squeezebox that lends itself to staccato, slapping attack, an instrument not peculiar to Argentina, but perhaps only well known to Argentinians. He died in 1992, his Romantic heroism national at best.

It was in the early 1990s that arrangements of Piazzolla's music began to appear on "classical" programmes. By the time a figure as august as Daniel Barenboim recorded his Tangos Among Friends, Mi Buenos Aires Querido, in 1995, they were already becoming established in the repertoire. I personally have heard performances of Piazzolla's music for full orchestra, string orchestra, chamber orchestra, various formats of chamber ensemble, piano trio, solo piano, solo harp, flute and guitar, guitar solo, violin and piano, string quartet, string trio and, of course, bandoneon. But it is surely the chamber group that best fits this music. There is always a toughness to its apparent sensuality that tends to be overstated by the large numbers of a full orchestra. Lack of volume, on the other hand, tends to stress the saccharine.

And if you want to find an exquisite match between the music's toughness and sensuality, its durability versus its novelty, there is surely no better experience than that provided by Camerata Virtuosi, a septet led by violinist Joaquin Palomares and featuring saxophonist Claude Delangle. Their recording of Piazzolla's music features Joaquin Palomares' superb arrangements that capture the music's directness and beauty while preserving its toughness.

A Camerata Virtuosi performance in the Auditori de la Mediterrnia, La Nucia in February 2008 featured all the pieces included in their recording of Piazzolla's music. The group performed all four of the Seasons as a sextet with two violins, viola, cello, bass and piano. These pieces offer Joaquin Palomares a perfect vehicle to display his virtuoso violin playing which communicates the music's line whilst at the same time decorates with highly effective jazz-like riffs. The rest of the pieces were performed by a septet in which Claude Delangle's perfect soprano saxophone bent and teased its way through lambent legato lines. It was playing of the highest quality.

As on the recording, particularly successful were Oblivion and Milonga del Angel. Oblivion is the quintessential Piazzolla, a popular sing-along for the manic depressive perhaps, and not therefore a rarity. But the simplicity and understatement of the piece always works beautifully, even when played twice in the same concert, as in La Nucia. Milonga del Angel is a different kind of piece. Though superficially similar to Oblivion, it manages in its six minutes to develop through its binary form, so that different movements create different moods within the same material. A true highlight.

Joaquim Palomares' violin playing was, as always, more than elegant throughout and by the end the audience had experienced again the genius of Piazzolla courtesy of Palomares' superb arrangements. Great music needs great interpreters, and Piazzolla's has surely found one in Joaquin Palomares.

MP3 Downloads

MP3 is a popular encoding and compression format for digital audio. The term MP3 is an acronym for MPEG-1 Layer 3. Using the MP3 format, larger digital audio files can be shrunk to a fraction of their size, losing a little of the sound quality in the process. Compared to the reduction in file size and ease of download, the reduction in quality is negligible and usually not very noticeable.

MP3 downloads are becoming hugely popular these days, because they allow several songs or pieces of audio to be stored without occupying a large amount of storage space.

MP3 files can be played either on a computer, using software applications such as Winamp or Windows media player, or they can be played on specialized MP3 players such as the Apple IPod. MP3 audio files may be played on recently manufactured DVD Players and CD players.

MP3 files are usually downloaded from websites on the Internet. Once downloaded, MP3 files can also be copied to compact discs or to MP3 players, using a data transfer cable.

MP3 files of popular music are available for download for as low as $1. Websites such as the ITunes online music store, operated by Apple, are very popular and boast of a huge library of music that can be purchased online. Even though MP3 files can be downloaded from the Internet for free, downloading copyrighted music without permission is illegal and can be termed piracy.

MP3 downloads help a person to build a music library. MP3 downloads also helps upcoming and unknown artists promote their music cost effectively. All they need to do is to post their music online for free downloads and they can be sure of reaching a large audience.

MP3 Downloads provides detailed information on MP3 Downloads, Free MP3 Downloads, MP3 Download Software, MP3 Download Sites and more. MP3 Downloads is affiliated with CD Covers.

Grammy Awards

Grammy Awards are the Oscars of the music industry. The music industry launched its own awards thirty years after the Academy Awards were established. The Grammys, the Gramophone Awards--as originally named, were created in 1957 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

The Grammys were conservative. At that time, rock and roll was not included in the nominations, since it was considered a fad. Although the committee consisted of representatives from pop, jazz, classical, R&B, country etc, most innovators never won any awards for years to come.

The first Grammy Awards were presented for the year 1958, on May 4, 1959. Although Elvis Presleys records were half of the music sold that year, The King wasnt even nominated.

It is said that Frank Sinatra, the chairman of the board, had a hand in this, since he did not appreciate Rockn Roll, and in the second year, when Bobby Darin was granted the Record of The Year Award for 1959 for Mack the Knife, Sinatra despised the new music even more. During the later years, however, Sinatra recorded the same song.

The end of the sixties still stayed conservative, although with Woodstock and with the push for following along with the times, the middle-of-the-road choices started to take hold. In 1969, the group 5th Dimension proved to be a godsend with their soft jazzy rock music, winning two awards for the same song, Aquarius--Let the Sunshine in.

The traditionalist view lost its hold during the seventies when the Grammys relaxed the strict judging criteria and included the rock music artists like the Eagles and Stevie Wonder.

A slap in the face came to Grammys with their biggest scandal when the Best New Artist Award was given to Milli Vanilli. Milli Vanilli were a twosome who had three singles at the number one spot. It was later discovered that the two never sang any of their songs, but lip-synched. Their German producer said afterwards, We made a pact with the devil.

The Grammys were broadcast on television for the first time by ABC until CBS bought the rights of telecast in 1973. The Grammys were held in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium for several years and then moved to the Staples Center because of the increase in the size of the audience and the categories. For years, New York and Los Angeles have competed for hosting the Grammys.

The Grammys now boast 108 categories with more than 20 genres of music and chapters in Atlanta, Chicago, Florida, Los Angeles, Memphis, Nashville, New York, Pacific Northwest, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony took place on February 11, 2007 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California with Dixie Chicks becoming the big winners. In 2008, Grammy Awards will celebrate its fiftieth year, a milestone in the music awards business and will be held on a date to be yet announced at Staples Center, Los Angeles, California.

iPod Songs Downloads - How to Download Songs to Your iPod

There are several popular ways to download a song onto an iPod. The process of downloading songs to an iPod such as iPod Nano, Shuffle, etc is very easy and simple. All you need is some basic tools and some information on how to do it. This article shows you a simple way you can use to put songs on your iPod device in minutes.

What you need:

- You need the songs to download:

If you already have a CD collection you can just use free software to convert them to mp3 and save the files on your pc. If you already have a collection of music in mp3 format then you don't need to do this. Another way is to download the songs from an mp3 download site. There are hundreds that you can use.

- An iPod

Of course if you want to put music on an iPod, we're assuming that you already have one. If you don't have an iPod, you can buy one from websites like eBay or Amazon. Or you can just visit your local shopping center for shops that sell them.

- Your PC or laptop

Most people have at least a computer in their home so this won't be a problem. These days you can get a second hand personal computer for about $100. If you want more speed and a bigger hard disk, you should be prepared to spend more. Generally laptops tend to be more expensive that PC's.

- A Connector cable

You need a Connector cable to connect your iPod to your computer. You probably already have this cable since they usually come with your iPod when you purchase it.

Follow these easy steps:

1. If you don't already have it, download the iTunes software and install it on your pc. This software is available free from www.apple.com/itunes/download. You can also use the installation CD that came with your iPod.

2. Connect your iPod to your pc using the connector cable which came with your iPod. One end of the cable goes to the USB port on your computer and the other end to your iPod. If you've never connected your iPod to your PC before, follow the instructions for installing on your PC.

3. Download music and songs from your favorite download site and save the music on your pc.

4. Now, Use the drag-and-drop feature on your pc to move the songs to your iPod. To use drag-and-drop left-click on the song you want to move and hold the click while you move the song to the iPod. You can also just copy and paste.

After you're done moving the songs, disconnect the iPod properly by using the eject button. This will avoid problems and errors on your pc.

You can also use other types of software besides iTunes although its is one of the most popular. As you can see from this article, it's very simple and easy to download music onto your iPod.

Eminem/The Re Up Mixtape Review

Global rating of the product: 5 stars

Drug dependence, the murder of your best friend, the collapse of your marriage can break an individual. After the flood of issues in which Eminem was literally drowning during the last months, many people thought that the skilled rapper would retire from the rap game.
However Eminem is a stand up man with that thick skin that allowed him to resist to life tempests.

Eminem is back with his crew, stronger than ever, bringing to you his new hard worked on CD, the Re Up mixtape.

Joyful violin sounds, gunshots, hammering drum beats starts Shady Narcotics which is the prelude to the mixtape in which Eminem introduces his crew: D12, Obie Trice, 50 Cent, Stat Quo, Bob Creek and Cashis.

From the oldest to the newest members, everyone has his precise place and plays his role in this valuable team work.

Were Back: the shady soldiers are back, more offensive than ever, with razor blades alike words. Big mouth running haters be ready to be punched right in the face. Eminem, Obie, Bob Creek, Cashis and Stat Quo will smash the jealous hoes in the game. Any underground artist aims at becoming mainstream someday: so dont hate, congratulate!

Gunshots, numerous violins, a dark bassline totally situate the context: the arise of a lyrical battle is imminent.

The heat increases as Obie Trice spits lyrical bullets on a Pistol Pistol sample.

As the sky gets cloudy and darker, you can smell the smoke in the air. Bizarre and Kuniva reinforce the roughness of the hell of a murderous ambience. Be ready for war while keyboard, drums and dark murder vocals combined with some gunshots will portray you the Detroit hood like it is.
I think that Bizarre and Kunivas beautiful performance needs to be pointed out. I recommend you the song. Dont sleep on that one.

Everything Is Shady: let Cashis take over in the scurrilous themed song.
The Shady gladiators are teaming up and will leave their enemies lying lifeless, lyrically speaking.

Eminem and 50 Cent introduce you to The Re Up in a rhythmic beat box mode. The song is beautifully rhythmic, Eminems vocal performance is well handled from the beginning to the end. 50 Cent will keep on with the same beautiful spirit that will remind many of you of the Get Rich Or Die Trying album. Good job!

You Dont Know is a classic, already. I reviewed the song and the video a while ago.

Jimmy Crack Corn is based on a Yellow Brick alike musical background. The song is provocative. Eminem humors those who are running their big mouths in the rap game.

Trapped will feature RIP Big Proof as a tribute to the gifted fallen D12 soldier.

When Swifty and Kon Artis unite their talents, bombs are thrown on the scene. Swinging beats, light piano sounds mixed up with violins and keyboars will totally enhance the killa track.

Chord sounds, harpshichord notes, light piano sounds, a good dose of offensiveness, sharp and incisive words will underline Bob Creekwaters good performance. Bob Creek is one of the most underrated Shady Records signed artist, but he is nevertheless talented. Check him out!

I fully enjoyed Eminems Public Enemy track that gets political and offers some insight about assassination plots.
Eminem fully masters his flow and shows some good lyrical skills on the well handled song.

Eminem concludes the mixtape with No Apologies. In a long monologue, Eminem shows some lyrical dexterity and confronts critics. No apologies for being himself and for speaking his mind. The arsenic writer , the lyrical genius is back with some beautiful, poetic lines:

My head hit's the pillow, a weeping willow, i can't sleep, a pain so deep it bellows
But these Cellos help just to keep me mellow, hand's on my head, touched knees to elbow
I'm hunched over, emotion just flows over, these cold shoulders are both frozen, you don't know me

Monotonous piano and keyboard sounds contrast with the sudden introduction of bells and violins. Marshall Mathers voice and lyrics are an outlet for the bottled rage. The song fully enlightens Eminems lyrical mastery. I love the track, because it is unique in its creativity and outshines all the excellent tracks of the Re Up.

Globally speaking the Re Up enlightens the whole Shady Records crews artistic collaborations. Eminem is so sorry to disappoint all the people who nearly buried him lyrically and artistically. The tight emcee is backed by his crew that also shows some good skills.

The Re Up is worth your interest. Id strongly advice you to own it in your hip hop library.

Getting to Know your Basenji

Getting to know your dog starts by getting to know its breed. At Kingdom of Pets, we keep a large database of detailed information on the appearance, personality, and health requirements of individual dog breeds. Here's what you need to know about the Basenji:

The Basenji is classified as a member of the sight hound family, otherwise known as a hound. However, this breed is also referred to as a Congo Dog because it is one of the oldest breed dogs, coming out of the continent of Africa. In fact, if you were to visit Africa, going to some of the Egyptian Pharaohs tombs, you would see carvings or other depictions of the Basenji on the Steles. Just as they did thousands of years ago, the Basenji is a regal breed with a proud stance, erect ears, and a curled tail.

For many years, this breed almost completely disappeared but then in 1895 when the Europeans crossed over into the Congo, it was again discovered, becoming a favorite pet due to its high level of intelligence, speed, silence, and even courage. All of these special qualities made the Basenji a great help during wild game hunts. After being imported to the United States sometime in the 1930s, the Basenji became popular, which lead to the breed becoming a member of the American Kennel Club in 1943.

Physical Appearance

As mentioned, the Basenji has a strong, proud look that is hard to miss. This breed is small, typically between 20 to 24 pounds and about 17 inches tall. The hair is short, the eyes almond shaped, and especially when puppies the forehead is wrinkled. Watching a Basenji move is fascinating in that the breed trots similar to a horse with a double-suspension gallop at full speed running.

While you will see a number of hair colors, only some are recognized by the American Kennel Club. These colors include:

* Brindle White (black stripes on a red background)
* Red and White
* Black and White
* Tricolor (red, black, and white)
* Trindle (tricolor and brindle combination)

Temperament and Personality

The most fascinating aspect of the Basenji is that this breed does not bark although a simple woof sound is possible. Other sounds made by the Basenji include a squeal, chortle, white, or yodel. Basenjis are also insistent on being clean, often wiping the face just like that of a cat. While this breed loves to hunt and explore, it does not favor water.

Being an extremely smart dog, the Basenji is easy to train, learning commands quickly. Other temperaments include being independent, funny, aloof to strangers, devoted to the master, and even mischievous. Keep in mind if you buy a Basenji that they love to run and they are exceptional climbers. Therefore, a chain link fence is not necessarily a good barrier.

Most Basenjis are high energy and independent. While they get along well with children and other pets, it is usually recommended they be heavily socialized and supervised. In most cases, if this breed is raised around other animals, walked in the park, and exposed to a number of environments, it will do well. However, the Basenji is a breed of its own, sometimes being unpredictable and a little standoffish.

Health

Typically, the Basenji is a healthy breed although some might develop Fanconi Syndrome, which is an inheritable kidney disorder. When a Basenji develops this problem, he or she would likely not have any symptoms until around four. In addition, this breed can be a carrier of a recessive gene known as the Hemolytic Anemia, which can be tested for with a non-invasive procedure.

Other possible health risks include Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which is a form of degeneration in the retina, causing blindness, Coloboma, a hole in the eyes structure, Persistent Pupillary Membrane, which are small threads going across the dogs pupil, Malabsorption, an autoimmune intestinal disease, and Hip Dysplasia, which is a bone disease that causes symptoms similar to arthritis.

Housebreaking 101

Remember that dog who just knew you didn't want her piddling in the house? Some dogs just need a slight sense of disapproval from you, and they virtually housebreak themselves.

But you dont have one of those dogsor you wouldnt be reading this!

So how do we house train the dog who just doesnt seem to get it? Believe it or not, its simple.

I have two key words for you:

Confine and Observe.

While there is a great deal to know about food and water scheduling, timing can vary from dog to dog. So well just concentrate here on the main concept which is to confine your dog to an appropriately sized crate when you cannot observe her.

A properly sized crate is large enough for your dog to stand up and turn around, but hardly bigger than that. If you have a puppy in a large crate, shell think shes got a bedroom with a bathroom built in. Shell wee in one corner and sleep in the other.

The correctly sized crate consists of bedroom only with no bathroom. So if your crate is too large, go to the pet store and purchase a crate divider so you can temporarily reduce the accessible area.

Fido should be in her crate unless you can observe her 100%. This means that when the dog is loose, she has your undivided attention. Consider attaching a 6 foot light cord to the collar so you can more easily locate the dog, and prevent her from leaving the room without you. Simply step on the cord to stop her.

At the first sign your dog needs to go, whisk her outside. Those signs include circling, sniffing, anxiousness, whining among other symptoms.

When youre not observing your dog with full attention, you confine her to the crate. That being said, you do need to ensure your dog has liberty periodically so shes not all day in the crate. By being diligent now, youll be able to give Fido years of liberty with no worries. So its well worth the investment in time at this stage.

Be sure you spend time playing with your dog, and also let her wander outside the crate. Avoid tossing her in the crate as punishment. Alleviate your guilt feelings by placing bones smeared with peanut butter in with her.

This method makes it impossible for your dog to have an accident. Youre either right there to take her out, or shes in the crate where she wont want to go. When youve had a month with no accidents, you can begin to let the dog earn a little more liberty, five or ten minutes at a time.

That means she can be out of your sight for a few moments at a time. But only a few. You want to build slowly on a record of success until your dog literally forgets that the house ever contained a bathroom.

For each week with no accident, you can give Fido a few more moments of liberty at a time. However, if there is an accident, go back a step, and reduce that liberty. One accident in the house erases progress made for the several previous days.

Confine and Observe your way to house breaking success. In the course of just two or three months, youll have a dog you can trust in the home. Its going to be worth the effort!
